Protocol — skin

Sixteen weeks. That is the horizon of the trials, not seven days.

The skin routine is where the gap between the usual marketing promise and the literature is widest. The trials documenting red light on skin measure at sixteen weeks of regular sessions. A brand announcing a visible result in a week is not describing those trials.

For anyone wanting a regular facial routine and willing to judge over months.

The session

Four numbers, nothing left to guess

These values come from our How it works page. They are not specific to this protocol: they hold for all of them, and it is the moment that changes.

When

On clean bare skin, before skincare

Duration

10 minutes

Distance

15 to 30 cm for a panel, in contact for a mask

Frequency

3 to 5 sessions a week, judged at sixteen weeks

How to run it

The session, in order

Cleanse first

Foundation, sunscreen, or an opaque serum filters the light before it reaches the skin.

Nothing between the light and you

Bare skin, no product applied. Skincare comes after the session, not before.

Ten minutes, eyes protected

That is what the supplied goggles are for. Never stare at an LED, even briefly.

Then your usual routine

Serum and cream go on afterwards. The session does not replace them.

The spectrum involved

What these wavelengths do, and where

590 nm

Amber — surface

Absorbed within the epidermis. Used for complexion and skin comfort, not to reach a muscle.

630 nm

Red — skin

Epidermis and superficial dermis. This is the red channel of the Antared mask, the one collagen trials document.

660 nm

Red — dermis

The most studied red wavelength in the field, present across almost the entire range.

The mistakes that cost the most

  • Judging at two weeks. The reference trials measure at sixteen.
  • Running the session over skincare. The product filters the light and you measure something other than what you think.
  • Increasing duration for lack of a result. That is not the lever; consistency is.
  • Dropping sunscreen. Red light protects from nothing, and the sun remains the first driver of skin ageing.

Framing

What this session does not do

Antared devices are wellness products, without medical-device CE marking. What follows is not stylistic caution: it is the exact boundary of what a usage protocol may state.

This is not a dermatological treatment

Acne, rosacea, eczema, a lesion changing appearance: that is a dermatologist, and only a dermatologist.

It does not replace sun protection

It does not protect against UV and does not offset exposure.

No result is guaranteed

What exists are published trials on groups, not a promise about your face.

No study has been run on an Antared device

The work cited in our Learn space involves research devices with their own parameters.

A short, repeatable face and skin session — built around surface-level red and blue light rather than a long, complicated regimen.

Suggested setup

  • Device: Antared Mask (460nm blue, 630nm red, 850nm near-infrared) or Antared DESK
  • Duration: 10 minutes
  • Frequency: 3–5 times per week

The mask is cordless and stays in place on its own, so you can fold the session into an evening routine — brushing teeth, winding down, or a few minutes before bed.
